It’s National Irish Coffee Day. So there’s your excuse to drink whiskey in the A.M. if you want. Someone polled fans and asked them to name the best country songs about whiskey. Here are the top ten . . .
1. “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton. David Allan Coe did it in 1981, and George Jones covered it too. Chris’s version came out in 2015.
2. “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound” by Hank Williams Jr. (1979)
3. “Copperhead Road” by Steve Earle. (1988) It’s about whiskey and making moonshine.
4. “Whiskey River” by Willie Nelson (1978) Johnny Bush wrote it and did it first in 1972. But it’s become one of Willie’s signature songs.
5. “Whiskey Lullaby” by Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss (2004)
6. “Jack Daniels, If You Please” by David Allan Coe (1978)
7. “Whiskey Girl” by Toby Keith (2004)
8. “Whiskey and You” by Chris Stapleton. He wrote it, and it was on “Traveler”, the same 2015 album as “Tennessee Whiskey”. But he wasn’t the first person to do it. Tim McGraw did it first in 2007.
